The Best Places to Elope in Yosemite
How can you possibly choose where to elope in Yosemite National Park with all the gorgeous features?! Well, certain factors like time of year and your guest count will probably narrow down your list of options for you. The “best” place will be the one that takes your breath away AND checks all the logistical boxes.
A permit is required for a ceremony in the park. However, if your total party (including you two and any vendors, like your photographer) is fewer than 11 people, you aren’t limited to the park’s list of designated ceremony spots.
Don’t worry if a spot can’t accommodate your guest count, because you can still get portraits taken there at a minimum!
Yosemite National Park is a massive place with so many gems that couldn’t possibly all be listed out–so this blog just features a few of my favorites. I broke down the options into two categories: locations above the valley, and locations down IN the valley.

Locations with a View
When figuring out where to elope in Yosemite we have to start with the most iconic locations. These spots are all above the valley which means they’re higher elevation. High elevation locations are gorgeous in the summer, but inaccessible in the winter. For more information about WHEN to elope in Yosemite, click here.
Glacier Point
Pros: Glacier Point offers one of the most iconic panoramic views in Yosemite, overlooking Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, and the High Sierra peaks. It’s an easily accessible location (when the road is open) and provides a dramatic, larger-than-life backdrop perfect for an intimate ceremony.
Cons: Glacier Point Road is typically closed in winter and early spring due to snow. In peak season, it can be crowded, and you should definitely opt for sunrise.

Taft Point
Pros: Taft Point is a stunning, cliffside location with breathtaking views of Yosemite Valley and El Capitan. It’s a great choice for couples who want an adventurous yet elegant setting with a bit of solitude compared to Glacier Point. The short but scenic hike adds to the experience.
Cons: The trail is about 2.2 miles round trip, requiring a mild hike. It can be dangerous near the cliffs, especially for those uncomfortable with heights. Sunset is the most popular time, so expect some other visitors.
Tunnel View
Pros: This classic viewpoint offers a sweeping vista of El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall, and Half Dome, making for a stunning ceremony backdrop. It’s easily accessible and requires no hiking.
Cons: Tunnel View is extremely popular and almost always crowded with tourists, so finding a private moment can be challenging. The parking area is limited, which can be an issue during peak times.

Locations in Yosemite Valley
These spots are all located inside Yosemite Valley itself. They are lower elevation options that are usually accessible in the winter, but fluctuating water levels may impact accessibility during other times of the year.
Lower Yosemite Falls
Pros: This location offers an up-close view of Yosemite Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in North America. It’s easily accessible with a short, paved trail, making it a great option for those who prefer minimal hiking.
Cons: The falls can be roaring in spring but may dry up by late summer. This area is also very popular with tourists, so expect some crowds.
Bridalveil Fall
Pros: This waterfall is accessible via a short walk from the parking lot and flows year-round. The mist adds a dreamy, romantic touch to ceremonies and portraits.
Cons: The falls can be misty, which may get you and your guests wet. During peak hours, the area can be crowded. The waterfall is lighter in late summer and fall.

Cathedral Beach
Pros: A peaceful riverside location with stunning views of El Capitan, Cathedral Beach offers a beautiful, reflective water setting with a sandy shore. It’s great for small ceremonies and has picnic areas for a relaxed celebration.
Cons: The area can be busy during the summer, and the beach itself may be affected by seasonal water levels. It was almost entirely submerged in early June, when the photo below was taken!

El Capitan Meadow
Pros: This quiet, open meadow offers breathtaking views of El Capitan and a serene, natural setting. It’s perfect for couples who want a simple, yet majestic, Yosemite backdrop without the crowds.
Cons: There are no facilities nearby, and depending on the season, the meadow may be dry or lush with wildflowers.
Swinging Bridge
Pros: This location offers a mix of beauty with its views of Yosemite Falls, a peaceful river, and open meadows. It’s relatively accessible and provides a serene, less-crowded alternative to some of the more famous spots. There is a first-come first-serve picnic area for a relaxed celebration.
Cons: The bridge itself may have tourists passing through, and some areas may be closed seasonally due to high water levels.

Venues in Yosemite Valley
I recommend opting for a venue if you want a more elaborate set-up (think: arches and lots of flowers) or if you simply don’t want to stress about the weather impacting your ceremony.
The Ahwahnee
The Ahwahnee is a historic hotel right in the heart of the park. You simply can’t beat the location. Prime View rooms will get you covered balconies with unobstructed views of Half Dome and other iconic Yosemite landmarks. And yes, you can get married there! This is a great all-in-one option for lodging, a ceremony, and dinner.
Yosemite Valley Chapel
Maybe one of the most scenic chapels in the country?! This small, historic chapel is situated right in the middle of the valley. It’s still a fully functioning community church, and it is available to rent for weddings. You can find more information about their fees, regulations, and application process here.
